Into the forest...
I am in the forest this year! As I learn more and more about the forest community, its complexities, and the integrated relationship with our beautiful world, I connect more deeply with my surroundings.
My creative work centers around topics regarding the edges of communities, the permeability of the edges, and resilience. Communities can be between cells, between ecosystems (like forests, oceans, and meadows), or between communities of humans and communities of non-humans.
My studies in permaculture, agroforestry, and woodland management all feed into my creative work, and vice versa.
My current project with the Connecticut Master Woodland Manager program is on an emerging forest.
Emerging forests provide opportunities to investigate the resilience and history of the forest. It is also a way to envision a future with increased biodiversity of plants and animals, wildlife highways, and well-designed coexistence.
The reality of natural spaces is that they are shrinking. Human development does little to consider spaces for wildlife.
How can we all live together?
This is an area of exploration that continues in my art.
